Seroepidemiology of Human Cytomegalovirus in Healthy Adults Measured by Means of the Anticomplement Immunofluorescence Technique

Abstract
Human Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infections are widespread and usually asymptomatic, however, severe infections can be seen in newborns and immunocompromized individuals. In this study, the seroprevalence of human CMV in healthy hospital workers was
investigated by using anticomplement immunofluorescence(ACIF) technique. The study group consisted of 117 healthy hospital workers; 58 males and 57 females. The age of the subjects ranged from 20 to 50 years. Considering a sample being positive
if
CMV
IgG antibody titer is more than 1:10, the study reveals a seropositivity of 97% for male and 98% for female. The geometric mean titer was 1:30 for male and 1:40 for female. Although 35- to 39-year-old group showed the highest geometric mean titer
(1:46), no age differences were observed by statistically.
